Semyon Aranovich Gershgorin (also spelled Gershgorin) was a Soviet mathematician known for his work in the field of linear algebra and matrix theory. He is perhaps best known for the Gershgorin Circle Theorem, which provides a method to locate the eigenvalues of a matrix.
