He is best known for his contributions to the development of the Metonic cycle, a 19-year cycle that aligns the lunar calendar with the solar year. This cycle is significant because it consists of 19 years, which includes 235 lunar months, fitting very closely with the 19 solar years, thus allowing for a systematic way to integrate lunar and solar calendars.
