A homologous series is a group of organic compounds that share a common structural formula and have similar chemical properties, yet differ from each other by a specific number of methylene groups (-CHβ‚‚-) or a similar repeating unit. The members of a homologous series exhibit a gradual change in physical properties, such as melting and boiling points, as the molecular weight increases.
